Anna Beth Green

Anna Beth Green is a Raleigh, North Carolina based performer specializing in music theatre. After two some odd years studying theatre at Catawba College, Anna Beth made the transfer to East Carolina University and graduates with a BFA in Musical Theatre and a BA in Psychology this Spring ‘24. This has given her a somewhat uniquely wide variety of influences. In recent years, she has been seen across North Carolina in various outdoor/historical dramas. Most recently, she played Hermione in East Carolina’s production of The Winter’s Tale. Over the years, she has also been able to work with various photographers, and has even had a few collaborative works published and so far with one award-winning shot.

It would have. It does. I’m here, I exist. I love taking silly little photos in an attempt to capture feelings in a tangible way. I was born with a high expression and experience of emotions. I have to let it out somehow or I’ll explode. I am worthy of taking up space in the giant Venn diagram of the human experience. I must allow people to move freely in and out of my bubble without judgement

I could not tell you why I judged myself so harshly. That these just weren’t good enough. That people would find me obnoxious. That presenting more of myself would give people more to pick apart. You have as much free will as I have. But I also found it very difficult to trust that people wouldn’t be mean. Seeing photos of me taken without my knowledge or consent sent around on peoples snap stories or group chats to make fun of me rattled my ability to see photos of myself as art. And I struggled in general to believe that my art was good enough to be out there. It doesn’t have to be perfect anymore. It’s all apart of learning and growth. Trying to trust myself more and rely predominantly on my belief in myself rather than others’ judgement of me.

24th birthday beach trip with my love ☀️🐚🦀🌊 When you turn an age, it means you have completed that many years. So 24 years, what have I learned? I learned that I do deserve to be happy. I learned that I don’t have to hate myself to be worthy of love from others. I learned that I can love being alive. Those lessons were extremely tough to learn and there was a time when I really really didn’t want to be here. Now, I’m so proud of the life I’ve built for myself, a life I always dreamed of, a man I’ve always dreamed of, and an effect on the world I always dreamed of. It used to be so hard to enjoy a world I felt so alienated from and unworthy of, and I’ve devoted much of my time and energy to help others who, like me, were just never given a chance. I still feel guilty being too happy, that there are people out there who have made it clear that seeing these kinds of things upsets them. It used to upset me to see others living out my dreams and feeling like it was impossible. If you’re reading this, i just want to say, it’s possible. It’s not always easy, and you have to learn to sift through a lot of advice that is well intentioned, but not the most effective. Only you can become the expert in what makes you feel your best about the life you’re living.

Cyclone by @stickyfingersband has gotten me through a lot of tough times by not feelings quite so alone. The physical act of singing is incredibly therapeutic for me when I’m not ripping myself apart for how I sound. I want that part of my passion back. I care a LOT about what every single one of you think, and it would be complete bullshit to say that I’m perfectly unbothered now that I’m mentally doing better. But every time I get to be gentle with myself is a small step to learning to love an aspect of myself and life again. Post things that make you happy and express yourself. I have put the work in to have the capability of discerning what is valid criticism and what isn’t. If any of this bothers you, it’s a good time to practice just quietly unfollowing or muting or blocking rather than putting more negativity into the world. Or, directly and clearly communicate your personal thoughts to engage me in a discussion of legitimate criticisms. Thank you for coming to my TED talk

I am finally able to be proud of the person I am, finally feeling a sense of inner stability that I have never felt before, and that has been able to result in more positive relationships. Thank you to everyone who stuck it out with me even when it got hard to be there. The fact that I still have meaningful relationships with friends from Catawba is so heartwarming I want to always support you. Thank you to everyone who has met me since my evolution that has validated the hours of hard work I have done on my character. Thank you to everyone who has trusted me with their thoughts. Big week for girlypops part two!! Midsummer Night’s Dream. You all have made me remember why I love theatre. You reminded me that there has been love in my life and there is love in my life and there will be love in my life. I cannot overstate how much this experience means to me, but I think yall have a good idea at this point lol

Lover of many things including, but definitely not limited to: travelling, animals, photography, human expression, and crochet. Anna Beth loves experiencing those moments that seem overwhelming alive. After spending two and a half years at a private university, she realized there’s so much more out there that is worth experiencing. So, she made the transfer to a relatively HUGE D1 school, and added a second major; Psychology. The study of behavior. Many people seem to have the impression that Theatre and Pscyhology are wildly different, but quite the opposite is true. Digging into human behavior at it’s deepest, most authentic roots and helping people feel empathized with and understood is at the root of it all.
